Overview

Mazdutide is an investigational GLP-1/glucagon dual receptor agonist (an oxyntomodulin analog) developed by Innovent and Eli Lilly. It is in late-stage development for obesity and type 2 diabetes, with strong results in Chinese trials.

Mazdutide is an investigational GLP-1/glucagon dual receptor agonist — an oxyntomodulin analog — developed by Innovent Biologics in partnership with Eli Lilly. Like other dual agonists, it pairs GLP-1-driven appetite and glucose control with glucagon-driven energy expenditure and reduced liver fat. It has advanced especially quickly in China.

Phase III GLORY trials in China have shown substantial weight loss and broad metabolic improvement, and regulatory filings there are progressing. Outside China it remains investigational. Mazdutide is one of several dual and triple agonists racing to follow tirzepatide and retatrutide into the obesity market.

Mechanism of Action

Dual agonism of GLP-1 and glucagon receptors reduces appetite and blood glucose while increasing energy expenditure and reducing liver fat.

Use Cases

  • Weight management (investigational)
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Metabolic and liver health

Research Summary

Phase III GLORY trials in China show substantial weight loss and metabolic improvement. Regulatory filings are advancing in China; not approved elsewhere.

Explain It Like I'm 5 Years Old

Just like some of the other new weight medicines, mazdutide presses two hunger-and-energy buttons at the same time — one that makes you less hungry and steadies blood sugar, and one that makes your body burn a little more energy and clean up liver fat. It is furthest along in China, where studies show people losing a lot of weight.

How the Gym Bros Are Using It

Another dual-agonist name in the GLP-1 arms race, notable for how fast it is moving in China. Same core appeal as its cousins — strong appetite control plus a metabolic-rate nudge from the glucagon side. Investigational outside China, so for now it is a pipeline name to track rather than something in rotation.

Typical Dosing

Investigational; weekly subcutaneous dosing in trials. Not a medical recommendation.
